WILLIAM K. STEWART, 81
"Trapper Bill" died peacefully in his sleep in Whitehall, Montana, Wednesday, June 3, 2026.
He was the son of Kenneth and Clarice (Huffman) Stewart.
Bill was a 1963 graduate of New Albany High School, (IN) and served in the Indiana National Guard.
Although it was difficult, he thoroughly enjoyed Jungle Warfare Training in Panama and was proud to have done that.
He retired from Navistar in Springfield, Ohio (originally International Harvester Louisville, Kentucky.) He forged friendships with many co-workers, which he maintained until the end of his life.
Bill was an avid outdoorsman and an exceptionally good shot. He was a trapper, hunter and fisherman. He loved to roam and was very curious.
He could hold his own on a guitar and loved music, always wanting to hear something that "makes me want to tap my foot". Bill loved getting out to go hear live music at various local venues.
His favorite things were : his daughter, "boar-assing", bringing a smile to someone's face, history, exploring, music and helping others. He had a gift of gab and loved talking to almost anyone.
Bill was an honest man, and his word was as good as a contract.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Walter Stewart and his beloved yellow lab, Monty.
He is survived by his daughter, Dr. Dawn Durbin his son in law, Kevin, his sister, Cathy (Stewart) Prasad, three nieces, and a nephew.
