Sharlene Ann (Howser) Anderson, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend, was called home to the Lord on September 11, 2026. Born in Shelby, Montana on February 19, 1935, to Ted and Mabel Howser, the family soon moved to a ranch outside Willow Creek, where Sharlene graduated from high school in 1953. While working on the ranch during summer break, Sharlene met John Feight. Not one to shy away from showing people how to work hard, she quickly taught John the proper way to bale hay. John and Sharlene were married a week after graduation and following a honeymoon in Yellowstone, they lived in Willow Creek. John and Sharlene were blessed with 4 sons; Larry, Dale, Dan and Bill. They lived in various small towns throughout Montana while John worked construction jobs. Although they later divorced, John and Sharlene remained friends until John's passing. In the early 1970's Sharlene met and married Bob Anderson and they resided in Whitehall, starting the R2 Morgan Horse Ranch. Together they started the foundation of her breeding program by purchasing a Waer's stallion, Don Juan. Following their divorce, Sharlene went on to raise her prized Morgans in the Gallatin Valley. It was during this time she met Russ Estes and the two of them worked tirelessly to promote the R2 horse brand and accomplish many great things in and out of the show ring and on the ranch. Sharlene and Russ were partners in every sense until his untimely death in 2002. From early toddlerhood, Sharlene was, in her words, obsessed with horses. She often told the story of sneaking off from home to ride her pony to the neighbor's. And not just to their house, but in their house! Throughout the years, she raised numerous World Champion Morgan horses and became widely respected for her dedication to the breed. Sharlene prided herself on raising Morgan horses that were athletic, had good dispositions and were capable of excelling in any discipline. Her horses were a reflection of her own determination, hard work and high standards. In 2024, Sharlene was baptized and came to know the Lord Jesus Christ as her Savior, placing her faith in Him and beginning a beautiful, new chapter in her walk with the Lord. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Molly. She is survived by her four sons; Larry (Melba), Dale (Colleen), Dan (Vicky), and Bill (Silvia); brothers Jack (Mary) and Ron (Patty). Sharlene is also survived by 14 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 3 great great-grandchildren, along with several nieces and nephews and close friends. Funeral services will be held Friday, September 18th at 2:00 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Whitehall with a potluck reception to follow. Above all Sharlene will be remembered for her independent spirit, devotion to her family and extraordinary love of her horses.
