Robert Vernon "Goose" Shaw
Our beloved Goose left his gaggle here on Earth October 6, 2021, to join his heavenly flock of family and friends. Goose was born August 15, 1945, in Whitehall, MT to Loren and Cena Shaw. Goose graduated from Whitehall High School in 1964 and was drafted by the Army, where he served in Vietnam for two years.
Following his service in the Army, Goose worked for the Bureau of Reclamation, the Northern Pacific Railroad, Forest Service, and finally the Golden Sunlight Mine where he retired after 26 years.
Goose married the love of his life, Raye Makowski, October 11, 1983. This union blended together four daughters. Goose was also an avid bowler, golfer, Steelers and Yankee fan. His proud accomplishments included bowling a 300 game, being inducted into the Montana Bowling Hall of Fame, Butte Bowling Hall of Fame and traveling to numerous National Bowling Tournaments with family and friends. Family and friends will forever know Goose for his infamous fudge, loud shirts and crazy hats.
Goose is preceded in death by his parents Loren and Cena Shaw and numerous aunts and uncles.
He is survived by his wife Raye, daughters Michele (Duffy) Oak, Kim (Glenn) Kauffman, Sheila (Terry) Martin and Danette Bruns (Carrie Hansen), brothers Alan (JoAnn), Garland (Linda), Dennis (Jean), Chuck (Pam) Kerr, sisters Sherry (Larry) Messinger, Sandy (Bob) Yakawich, and Shelly Shaw. He is also survived by grandchildren Skylar, Dayne, Sawyer, Makenna, Camille, Clifton and Anthony, six great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family wishes to thank Highlands Hospice nurses, Dana, Barb, Sue and Deb for their loving care. We will miss this wonderful husband, father, brother, grandpa and friend. He will always be “strong like bull” in our hearts.
Join our family in a celebration of life service to be held Friday, October 29 from 1:00 pm to 4:00pm at the Star Lanes Event Center. (In honor of Goose, dress as he would) In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Whitehall Food Pantry, Hospice or Charity of donor’s choice.
