Opal Annette Gaston Hart was born on February 9, 1938, in Weslaco, Texas. She was the only child of John and Rachel Gaston. Opal passed away on June 20, 2026, in Manhattan, Montana.

After moving several times between Texas and Idaho, Opal and her family settled in New Plymouth, Idaho, where she attended high school. After she and Frank were married in New Plymouth, they lived in several different places before settling in Three Forks, Montana, in 1962. Opal always said, "This is where we are staying." Having moved so much as a child, she wanted to provide a more stable home for their children.

Opal worked for Security Bank, the City of Three Forks, and later as the bookkeeper for Norman's Conoco. After retiring, she and Frank enjoyed spending time with family and friends at their fishing camp in Canada.

She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Angie; and daughter-in-law, Theresa Hart.

Opal is survived by her husband, Frank Hart; son, Tom Hart; daughter, Lynnette VanLuchene, and her husband, Tim; grandchildren, Chad, Casie, Devin, Megan, and John; and great-grandchildren, Cooper, Gabby, Kemper, Kaiser, Kinley, Kanyen, and Coven.

Charitable donations may be made to the Methodist Church of Three Forks or the Heart of the Valley Animal Shelter.

A Memorial Service will be held for Opal at the Methodist Church in Three Forks on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. A reception will follow the service in the Annex.
