The morning of September 3, 2026 Michael "Mike" J.S. Myhre stepped into eternal life with Jesus Christ as his wife and sister looked on. Before this final journey, his temporal life encompassed many adventures leading and molding him to be a patriot, husband, father, big brother, grandfather, great grandfather, rancher, friend and role model for many. Mike will be missed and mourned by his family and friends, but his humor and anecdotes will be discussed for generations.

Mike entered this world in Macville, North Dakota June 18,1938 as the oldest of four children. His mom and dad introduced him to the love of farming and ranching through the Myhre family farm of New Rockford, ND. He spent many summers there as his uncle and grandpa nourished his love of agriculture through tending crops, cattle, and horses.

As a freshman in school his father and mother moved him to Minot, ND where he met the love of his life in the form of a 7th grade, kid sister of a close friend. She helped cultivate and promote his passion of ranching and farming through her love of horses, dogs and other animals. They dated throughout high school.

In 1955 Mike joined the National Guard, and after high school graduation in 1956, he joined the Marine Corps with four close friends, Dale Carr, Mel Opstad, Jim Glaze, and Bob Creed. He spent the next two years having the Corps hone his love of God, country, and family to a sharp fine edge. He experienced that absence makes the heart grow fonder.

Returning home to Minot and in 1959 he married his high school sweetheart, lifelong partner and confidant, Dixie "Dix". They financed their love of agriculture by building and selling homes. For the next 67 years they occupied each other's time and held each other accountable raising a family on Trails End Ranch near Pony, MT using draft horses while keeping alive the old ranching and farming traditions and ways while supplementing income through guiding and outfitting hunters. He kept alive the art of threshing grain with his binder and thrashing machine. Mike enjoyed volunteering with the Madison County Search and Rescue, serving as a deacon and treasurer with the Harrison Church, driving a school bus, being a husband, friend, and father.

Mike moved from the Harrison/Pony area to ranch with his boys in Beaverhead County developing and selling ranches, and eventually all settled in Yellowstone County on the Buffalo Creek Ranch to continue teaching and filling his grandchildren with his passion and love of agriculture, draft horses, cattle and family.

In 2010 Mike became a member of the Montana Draft Teamster Hall of Fame, and in 2012 he moved his bride back to Pony, MT where he retired to a small place and continued to tend and nourish his family, friends, two dogs, a cow and a horse or two. He spent time following his great grandchildren's exploits in sports, 4-H, hunting and fishing and instilling into them his humor and love of life.

Mike served his community as a member and advisor of the Hollow Top Senior Citizens, mentor of young people in the area. He gave freely of his time to the Harrison Church, loved his many grandchildren and great grandchildren, and helped his friends. Mike left a legacy of the love of family, ranching, growing oats, being a patriot and friend. He believed in Jesus and His whole word.

Mike was preceded in death by Olger and Florence Myhre (parents), Elizabeth Skadland (sister), Tom Schussler (brother-in-law), Doug and Frances Carr (father and mother-in-law) Dale and Rodney Carr (brothers-in-law).

He is survived by the love of his life - Dixie (Carr) Myhre; his sons - Monty (Debbie) Myhre of Custer, MT; Rex (Joni) Myhre Harlem, MT; Wes (Joan) Myhre Pony, MT; brother Pat (Jan) Myhre, sister Kelley Schussler, 10 grandchildren - Justin (Kristy) Myhre, Valerie (Doug) McClintock, Tyler (Carly) Myhre, Arica (Tanner) Burgess, Jolene (JT) Robbins, Melissa (Danny) Dorval, Miranda (Brent) Kirschenmann, Rosie Bueford, Reuel (Sanya) Ferrin, and Donnie (Alexa) Ferrin; 31 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and several cousins.

A celebration of life will be held on Sept 14 at 11:00 AM at the Y-Knot Barn located in Pony MT with reception to follow.
