Larry was born in Glendive, Montana on February 2, 1940 and lived his childhood years in Richey
Montana. He graduated from Richey High in 1959. In 1960, he enlisted in the US Air Force. He
completed boot camp at Lackland Airforce Base in Texas. He was stationed in Turkey through 1963,
when he was honorably discharged as an Airman/1st Class.
He returned home to Richey, MT. He met and courted Barbara Gay Eaton. They dated and danced until
their eventual marriage on March 24, 1965.
He worked for Valley Motor Supply in Glasgow, eventually being transferred to Dillon, MT; he was a true
salesman, earning multiple sales awards. In the early 70’s him and Barbara bought multiple ranches
throughout Beaverhead County. In this time, they welcomed their only son, Chance Edgar. Larry and
Barbara eventually moved to Twin Bridges and made their home and ranching operation in the Ruby
Valley. In the late 80’s, they sold the ranching operation to change careers to sell real estate. He
excelled at this endeavor, eventually earning his broker’s license and opening his own real estate office,
Rancher Realty, in Twin Bridges. He worked real estate through his retirement in the late 2000’s.
When he was not working, he was turning steers in the roping arena. You could find him at home in his
arena practicing for a weekend roping. He won numerous buckles. His greatest achievement was when
he placed second in the National Old Timers Rodeo Associations in 1983. He shared his love for roping
and was willing to teach anyone.
He had a soft heart for animals and an even softer one for his only grandson, Pierce.
Larry is survived by his wife, Barbara Edgar, his son Chance (Dene’) Edgar, and grandson Pierce Edgar, all
of Twin Bridges. He’s preceded in death by his parents, Vernon and Hazel (Johnson) Edgar, and his sister,
Darlene Nelson.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff of Honeybee Hospice in Dillon, MT.
There will be a graveside service on Saturday, March 9, 2024 at 1pm at the Twin Bridges Cemetery on
Airport Road. Service will be followed by light refreshments and dessert at the Twin Bridges Senior
